Surplus Food at Christmas

19 Dec 2020

A major thank you to Yuri Roik from the J P Dunn plant department who picked up surplus food and delivered this to our two chosen charities in Elephant and Castle – Pembroke House and Burgess Sports. Both are doing so much to address the food poverty that arises from the deep inequalities in society.

This was all made possible by Surplus to Supper who seek to bridge the gap between food waste and food poverty by distributing food to food banks throughout London. This is food that would otherwise be thrown away. Our MD, Jonathan Dunn, is a trustee of this charity but all of the hard work is carried out by the team in Sunbury, headed up by Claire Hopkins. J P Dunn are currently working on a regeneration project at the Aylesbury Estate in Elephant and Castle and so we sought a tangible way in which to help the local community. More and more people are moving in to food poverty and so we were delighted to play our small part in connecting the food with those who are vulnerable and need it most.
