JP Dunn Construction were appointed by Sir Robert McAlpine to deliver groundworks, reinforced concrete frame, and external works for a new hospital building at Tolworth.
The project followed an early works programme that included services diversions, new car parking, and access roads. The new hospital facility provides seven wards dedicated to mental health care, creating an environment designed to support recovery and well-being.
Utilities and services diversions
Development of new car parks and access roads
Ground beams and pile caps
Below-ground drainage
Waterproofing
Ground floor slabs
RC frame to upper floors
Ahead of sub-base installation, operatives carefully exposed, assessed, and lowered live services including gas, water, electric, BT, and data cables. Works were undertaken by hand-digging and vacuum excavation to ensure safety and precision.
The hospital remained operational throughout construction. JPD implemented strict segregation measures with clear hoarding lines to separate construction activities from patient and staff areas.
Deliveries were restricted to avoid peak hospital times.
Noise and dust were carefully managed through controlled methods of working.
High behavioural standards were upheld at all times.
