Project Overview

JP Dunn Construction were engaged by BAM to deliver a major groundworks and substructure package for the new St Mary Magdalene School – a large, all-through educational facility located at the base of the Greenwich Peninsula.

Occupying a two-hectare site on the prominent corner of Millennium Way and John Harrison Way, the development provides over 5,000m² of teaching, sports, and community-use space, serving pupils from primary to higher learning levels.

Key Features

Groundworks & Substructure Scope

Our works included the full groundworks and substructure for the expansive academic and community campus. This comprised bulk excavation, foundation construction, drainage systems, utility service infrastructure, and site preparation for vertical build.

A key element of the project was the creation of a new sports hall and associated MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) external pitch — requiring precise levelling, sub-base build-ups, and drainage to achieve performance specifications.

Complex Site & Logistics

The site’s size and location — bordered by busy roads and key infrastructure on the Greenwich Peninsula — required rigorous planning and coordination. Deliveries, vehicle access, and interfaces with adjacent developments were carefully managed to maintain programme and safety standards.

The surrounding public realm and future landscape scheme also demanded sensitive handling of below-ground elements, including tree pits, soft landscaping interfaces, and community access points.
