Project Overview

Following the successful delivery of Wedge House, JP Dunn Construction were appointed by Kier to complete the Section 278 resurfacing works on Colombo Street in Central London.

This involved significant challenges, including managing and relocating a complex network of existing underground services in order to facilitate the new, thicker road make-up.

Project Details

Collaboration with TFL and Southwark Council

JP Dunn worked closely with both Transport for London and Southwark Council, securing two separate Street Works Licences (Section 50). A collaborative approach ensured timely permissions and compliance across both borough and network regulations.

Working Around Live Services

Before new sub-base installation, JP Dunn operatives carefully exposed, assessed, and lowered a range of existing services — including Gas, Water, Electric, Virgin Media, and BT.

All works were conducted in-house by JP Dunn’s street works trained teams, following detailed method statements and HSE guidance HSG47: Avoiding danger from underground services. This ensured a safe and efficient process in a heavily congested area.
