About the role (SITE FOREMAN)

The Site Foreman manages daily activities on the whole works area, ensuring works are completed safely,
on time, and to required standards. The role involves close coordination with engineers, supervisors, and
trades, maintaining discipline, and addressing site issues proactively. The Foreman is a critical member of
the project management team and Is vital to the safe and timely delivery of the project.

Responsibilities (SITE FOREMAN)

About the role (SITE SUPERVISOR (BLACK HAT))

The Site Supervisor supports the Foreman and Project Manager by overseeing specific tasks or trades,  ensuring work progresses safely, efficiently, and according to plan. They provide hands-on leadership and  ensure compliance with site rules. 

Responsibilities (SITE SUPERVISOR (BLACK HAT))

  • Supervise assigned trades or activities daily.  
  • Enforce site safety policies and ensure PPE compliance. 
  • Coordinate with foremen, engineers, and subcontractors. 
  • Support in completing QA inspections and records.  
  • Monitor work progress and report issues to the Foreman. 
  • Assist in lifting operations or plant movements as required. 
  • Maintain a tidy, hazard-free work environment.

Candidate requirements (SITE SUPERVISOR (BLACK HAT))

  • NVQ Level 3 in relevant construction discipline. 
  • CSCS Gold or Blue card.  
  • SSSTS

About the role (CARPENTER)

A Carpenter is responsible for constructing, erecting, installing, and repairing formwork, temporary works,  and other timber structures required for reinforced concrete and groundworks operations. This includes  working from drawings, ensuring accuracy of measurements and levels, and maintaining high standards  of workmanship while observing all health and safety requirements on site. 

Responsibilities (CARPENTER)

  • Interpret and work from technical drawings, bar bending schedules, and specifications to  construct formwork for slabs, walls, columns, beams, staircases, and other RC elements.  Set out and install formwork to correct lines, levels, and tolerances using appropriate tools and  equipment (e.g. spirit levels, laser levels).  
  • Build and strike formwork safely, ensuring it can be reused where required.  
  • Fabricate and erect temporary works, including working platforms, access ways, edge protection, and  supports. 
  • Install fittings such as kicker blocks, fillets, chamfers, and stop-ends to specified dimensions and  profiles. 
  • Select and use suitable materials (e.g. plywood, timber, proprietary systems) efficiently, reducing  waste. 
  • Carry out quality checks on own work and rectify defects promptly.  
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good condition, reporting defects promptly.  Comply with site health, safety, and environmental procedures, wearing appropriate PPE at all  times. 

Candidate requirements (CARPENTER)

  • Level 2 or 3 in Carpentry and Joinery or Formwork.  
  • CSCS Blue or Gold Card (Skilled Worker / Advanced).  
  • Manual handling and working at height awareness. 
  • Basic understanding of temporary works principles.  
  • Experience in RC frame construction, groundworks, or civils formwork.  
  • Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications accurately. 

About the role (CARPENTERS MATE)

A Carpenter’s Mate supports carpenters on site, assisting in constructing and dismantling formwork and  temporary works. The role requires carrying, preparing and passing materials, basic measuring and  cutting, and maintaining a safe and tidy workspace. 

Responsibilities (CARPENTERS MATE)

  • Assist in assembling and dismantling formwork and falsework. 
  • Carry and pass timber, plywood, and fixings to carpenters. 
  • Use basic hand tools under supervision (e.g. saws, hammers, drills). 
  • Maintain work areas in a clean, organised, and safe condition.  
  • Follow instructions from carpenters and supervisors carefully.  
  • Help with loading/unloading materials, stacking and storing safely. 
  • Participate in manual handling operations in line with H&S requirements.

Candidate requirements (CARPENTERS MATE)

  • CSCS Green or Blue Card.  
  • Basic construction site safety knowledge. 
  • Manual handling training (preferred). 
  • Previous site experience (desirable).

About the role (MACHINE OPERATOR)

The Machine Operator safely operates heavy plant (excavators, telehandlers, rollers) to support site  operations such as earthworks, material handling, and lifting activities. 

Responsibilities (MACHINE OPERATOR)

  • Operate plant machinery as authorised and instructed.  
  • Carry out daily checks and basic maintenance. 
  • Work in line with lift plans and RAMS. 
  • Assist with basic groundworks when required. 
  • Communicate clearly with slingers, supervisors and spotters

Candidate requirements (MACHINE OPERATOR)

  • CPCS / NPORS card (relevant categories). 
  • CSCS card (if required).  
  • 2+ years’ plant operating experience.

About the role (GROUNDWORKER)

The Groundworker is responsible for carrying out all aspects of groundworks, including foundations,  drainage, external works, and utility installations. The role requires attention to detail and a commitment  to working safely and efficiently as part of a team to ensure the delivery of high-quality work in line with  drawings and specifications. 

Responsibilities (GROUNDWORKER)

  • Excavate, prepare, and lay foundations, including concrete pads and strip footings. Install drainage systems, manholes, and ducting to correct levels and gradients. Carry out kerbing, paving, and other external works. 
  • Operate small plant and tools safely and competently.  
  • Interpret site drawings and levels with supervision. 
  • Maintain a tidy and safe working area. 

Report any hazards or defects to the supervisor immediately.  

Take personal responsibility for quality and correctness of work.

Candidate requirements (GROUNDWORKER)

  • CSCS Card (minimum Green; Blue/Gold preferred). 
  • Experience in groundworks including foundations and drainage. 
  • Confined Spaces (desirable).  
  • Good understanding of health & safety practices.  
  • Reliable, with good work ethic and attitude.

About the role (GENERAL LABOURER)

The General Labourer provides vital support across all site activities, assisting trades and keeping the site  safe, tidy, and efficient. This is a key entry-level role requiring a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and  adherence to health and safety procedures. 

Responsibilities (GENERAL LABOURER)

  • Assist skilled tradespeople and site operatives as required.  
  • Carry out site clearance, moving materials, and maintaining clean work areas. Follow instructions from supervisors and trades.  
  • Load/unload deliveries safely and efficiently.  
  • Set up and maintain site welfare and security fencing. 
  • Identify and report hazards.

Candidate requirements (GENERAL LABOURER)

  • CSCS Green Card.  
  • No prior experience required; willingness to learn essential. 
  • Good communication skills. 
  • Physically fit for manual tasks

About the role (APPOINTED PERSON)

The Appointed Person plans, supervises, and ensures the safe execution of lifting operations on site. They  are responsible for lift plans, risk assessments, and ensuring all lifting activities are carried out in  accordance with legal and company standards. 

Responsibilities (APPOINTED PERSON)

  • Develop lifting plans, RAMS, and permits for all lifting activities. 
  • Coordinate crane and lifting operations with site management. 
  • Ensure lifting equipment inspections and certifications are in place.  
  • Lead lift team briefings and toolbox talks. 
  • Monitor lifts and ensure compliance with plan and regulations. 
  • Identify hazards and implement controls. 

Candidate requirements (APPOINTED PERSON)

  • CPCS Appointed Person (Lifting Operations). 
  • SMSTS/SSSTS and First Aid desirable.  
  • Strong understanding of LOLER, PUWER, and lifting best practice.  
  • Experience managing complex lifting operations.

About the role (CRANE SUPERVISOR

The Crane Supervisor ensures lifting operations are conducted safely and in line with the lifting plan. They  supervise the lift team, manage crane set-up, and ensure all operations comply with health and safety  regulations.

Responsibilities (CRANE SUPERVISOR)

  • Supervise lifting activities in line with lift plan.  
  • Check crane positioning, outrigger setup, and equipment condition.  
  • Communicate with Appointed Person and site management. 
  • Coordinate slingers, signalers, and lifting team. 
  • Stop operations if unsafe conditions arise. 

Candidate requirements (CRANE SUPERVISOR)

  • CPCS Crane Supervisor Card. 
  • Good knowledge of lifting equipment and procedures.

About the role (SLINGER / SIGNALER

The Slinger is responsible for safely attaching and directing loads during lifting operations. They ensure  correct slinging techniques are used and work closely with the crane operator and supervisor. 

Responsibilities (SLINGER / SIGNALER)

  • Sling and signal loads in line with lifting plans.  
  • Inspect lifting accessories prior to use. 
  • Direct crane movements using approved signals. 
  • Communicate effectively with lift team. 
  • Report defects or unsafe conditions.

Candidate requirements (SLINGER / SIGNALER)

  • CPCS Slinger/Signaller Card. 
  • Understanding of load weight, balance, and lifting techniques.  
  • Safety-conscious and attentive.

About the role (TRAFFIC MARSHAL)

The Traffic Marshal controls site vehicle movements, ensuring the safe entry, exit, and movement of  vehicles and plant. They help prevent accidents and protect pedestrians and site workers. 

Responsibilities (TRAFFIC MARSHAL)

  • Vehicle and plant movements on site. 
  • Maintain safe access routes and keep them clear. 
  • Coordinate deliveries and ensure safe offloading. 
  • Communicate effectively with drivers and site teams. 
  • Report unsafe practices or hazards. 

Candidate requirements (TRAFFIC MARSHAL)

  • Traffic Marshal/Banksman Certificate.  
  • CSCS Card.  
  • Good communication skills. 
  • Awareness of site safety procedures.

About the role (PIPE LAYER)

The Pipe Layer installs underground drainage, water, and utility pipes, ensuring accurate positioning and  level to design specifications. They work as part of the groundworks team, maintaining high standards of  quality. 

Responsibilities (PIPE LAYER)

  • Lay pipes to line and level.  
  • Install manholes, chambers, and associated fittings. 
  • Backfill and compact trenches.  
  • Ensure correct bedding materials and jointing techniques. 
  • Check gradients and connections.

Candidate requirements (PIPE LAYER)

  • CSCS Card.  
  • Confined Spaces (preferred).  
  • Experience in drainage/utility installation.  
  • Ability to read drawings and levels.

About the role (PAVER)

The Paver lays paving slabs, kerbs, and blocks to form footpaths, roads, and external surfaces. They ensure  work is laid accurately and to the required standards. 

Responsibilities (PAVER)

  • Lay kerbs, slabs, and blocks to line and level.  
  • Mix and apply mortar and concrete bedding.  
  • Cut materials to fit as required.  
  • Ensure levels, falls, and alignment meet drawings. 
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area.

Candidate requirements (PAVER)

  • CSCS Card.  
  • Experience in external works and paving. 
  • Attention to detail and pride in workmanship.

About the role (CONCRETE PLACEMENT OPERATIVE)

The Concrete Placer works on RC Frame and groundworks projects, placing, compacting, and finishing  concrete to specified levels and quality. 

Responsibilities (CONCRETE PLACEMENT OPERATIVE)

  • Place concrete to correct levels and positions. 
  • Vibrate and compact concrete to remove air pockets. 
  • Finish concrete surfaces as required (e.g. power float).  
  • Assist with formwork preparation and removal.  
  • Follow health and safety procedures at all times.

Candidate requirements (CONCRETE PLACEMENT OPERATIVE)

  • CSCS Card.  
  • Experience placing and finishing concrete.  
  • Knowledge of concrete handling and safety practices.

About the role (STEEL FIXER)

The Steel Fixer installs reinforcement steel for RC structures, ensuring correct positioning and secure fixing  in line with drawings and specifications. 

Responsibilities (STEEL FIXER)

  • Read and interpret RC drawings. 
  • Cut, bend, and fix steel reinforcement.  
  • Tie rebar securely and accurately.  
  • Coordinate with carpenters and concrete teams. 
  • Maintain quality and accuracy of work.

Candidate requirements (STEEL FIXER)

  • CSCS Card (Steel Fixer). 
  • Ability to read RC drawings. 
  • Experience in steel fixing for RC Frames

About the role (STEEL FIXING – NIP HANDS)

The Nip Hand supports the steel fixer team by supplying materials, preparing work areas, and assisting  with simple fixing tasks under supervision. 

Responsibilities (STEEL FIXING – NIP HANDS)

  • Organise and supply rebar and accessories.  
  • Assist steel fixers with tying and cutting. 
  • Keep work areas clean and safe. 
  • Learn steel fixing techniques on the job.  
  • Follow instructions and safety procedures. 

Candidate requirements (STEEL FIXING – NIP HANDS)

  • CSCS Card.  
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
